Doughnut Time

We went a bit doughnut crazy this month and paid Doughnut Time two visits this month. We first saw all of those little Nutella doughnuts people were posting on Instagram and decided we had to go!

They initially opened in Australia and have opened three branches in London. We went to the branch in Old Street on Valentines hoping to get our hands on the Nutella doughnut. We got there around 3.30 in the afternoon and found they only had one type of doughnut left.

Having felt like we didn't get the full experience we decided to try a different branch. We went to the Shaftsbury Avenue branch on a Sunday at midday and found that they had plenty of choice. So we decided to pick up a few donuts for after our lunch.

The shops are basically a hole in the wall - I guess we were expecting to find a cool shop/cafe given the pictures of the doughnuts we had seen. However it's an efficient business model for selling donuts! The staff working in the shops are friendly; although we didn't really have to ask for much advice on which doughnuts we wanted.

The doughnuts look amazing. They're colourful and catch your eye in a very enticing way. I was a bit dubious about how they might taste given this but they tasted really good! Even my parents approved and they're not the doughnut eating sort of people. It was great finding somewhere with fun food that tastes good.

On our first visit there we only had the choice of "It's Always A Gay Time" which was filled with honeycomb and topped with a mild chocolate glaze, crushed biscuits and golden caramelised crepes.

On our second visit we went for Stranger Rings 2.0 which is a chocolate glazed doughnut with oreo crumbs, nutella and glitter; Hans Rolo a milk chocolate and caramel glazed doughnut topped with Rolos; FerreroNoShare filled with chocolate and topped with a Ferrero Rocher and Kind-er A big Deal which is an original glazed doughnut topped with a Kinder Surprise.

Like most theme based food products in London, they were a little pricey. A box of four doughnuts cost us £16 (my dad would have definitely scoffed at that price for a box of doughnuts) but I felt it was worth it for the novelty, taste and how much actual doughnut you get.

I'm not sure if I'd specifically go back for the donuts I've tried but I've been keeping my eye out for the new flavours they bring out each week and have already been drooling over a few. Certainly worth a try if you haven't a hankering for donuts!
