Shikumens

If you asked me where the go-to place for dumplings was I'd say Shikumens.

They have branches in Shepherds Bush, Ealing, Aldgate and Finchley Road. One of my good friends introduced me to the Shikumens in Ealing and we've been going ever since. It's hidden in a little street full of restaurants at the bottom of a hotel. Its a chic little place decorated with hanging lamps and a replica terracotta army.

So we went this weekend and we had a feast!

This is the one restaurant where we'd chose tea over wine - this time we selected the jasmine tea and the oolong. One pot is plenty for 1-2 people, we usually get 2 or more cups out of one pot.

We had the stir fried squid with pepper, chilli and garlic, chive prawn dumplings, pumpkin seafood dumplings, crab meat and prawn dumplings. Also not shown in the picture - my fried convinced me to try the chicken claws in black bean sauce (much more appetising than the name) and the prawn cheung fun.
All of the dumplings are made fresh in the restaurant and you can tell.

What we've had on previous visits...

The service on previous visits I've made has been good. Staff have always tried to answer our questions, we've never had to wait long for a table or for service and they've been attentive once the food has arrived.

So after we finished our meal, we overheard a conversation that that was the last day the dim sum menu was being served. Personally I think that's crazy (Yes, I did have an internal weep). I know they will still be serving some of their dim sum on the à la carte menu so I'm keen to revisit and see what's left.
